Feature :
Composition:
Each ml of solution contains 100 mg Oxytetracycline (as hydrochloride).
Pharmacology:
Oxytetracycline is a member of the tetracycline group of antibiotics and is produced by fermentation of Streptomyces rimosus. It generally acts as bacteriostatic and inhibits protein synthesis by reversibly binding to 30s ribosomal subunits of susceptible organisms, preventing binding to those ribosomes of aminoacyl-tRNA. Oxytetracycline also is believed to reversibly bind to 50s ribosomes and additionally alter cytoplasmic membrane permeability in susceptible organisms.
Indications:
Erfamycin 10 is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, active against most of the gram-negative, gram-positive and species of Mycoplasma, Protozoa, Chlamydia and Rickettsia.
It is indicated in infections of respiratory, urogenital and gastrointestinal tracts, infections of soft tissues, septic conditions, secondary bacterial infections and viral diseases caused by oxytetracycline sensitive pathogenic microorganisms.
In large and small ruminants it is indicated in metritis, mastitis, post-operative conditions, enterotoxemia, pyelonephritis, tetanus, foot rot, malignant edema, infectious polyarthritis, spirochetosis and etc.
Dosage & Administration:
It is administered by IM, IV or SC injection, in cattle, sheep and goats.
The dose rate is 5-10 mg/kg bw equals to 0.5-1 ml/10 kg bw, for 3-5 consecutive days.
Contraindications & Precautions:
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient, also in animals with liver or renal insufficiency.
The solution may darken on exposure to air but the potency remains unchanged.
Do not dilute the product. Once a vial is opened, use contents within four weeks.
Rapid IV administration of product can cause intravascular hemolysis and cardiodepressant effects.
Although the product is well tolerated, occasionally a local reaction of a transient nature may be observed.
The use of tetracyclines during the period of tooth and bone development, including late pregnancy, may lead to discoloration.
Due to antagonistic effect, oxytetracyclines should not be administered with Penicillins, Cephalosporins, Polimixins and Aminoglycosides such as Streptomycin, Neomycin and Gentamycin.
